Data Protection / Backup

This service provides guidance for setting up a backup and restore strategy, to anticipate data loss, ransomware or device theft. The objective is to ensure that important information (photos, documents, contacts, messages, etc.) can be recovered in case of digital incident, without panic or wasted time. The approach is based on a documented methodology, with cited sources and a reconstructed timeline, in accordance with Swiss legislation (nFADP) and OSINT principles.

What this service can offer

  • Assess the most important data to protect (photos, documents, contacts, messages, work files, etc.).
  • Propose a backup strategy adapted to the user's profile (automatic, semi-automatic, manual) and the required security level.
  • Configure automatic backup on macOS, iOS and Linux devices (and on secure cloud services if desired).
  • Set up a clear, tested restore strategy to recover data in case of loss, ransomware or theft.
  • Raise awareness of correct backup usage: frequency, storage locations (local, cloud, external), encryption, periodic verification.
  • Identify the main risks: data loss, ransomware, device theft, hardware damage, human error.
  • Spot signs of compromise linked to ransomware (encrypted files, ransom messages, etc.).
  • Reconstruct a timeline of events in case of incident (infection, loss, theft) to better understand what happened.
  • Provide a follow-up notice and practical advice to maintain the backup strategy over time.

What the service cannot guarantee

  • Recovery of data already lost, encrypted by ransomware or irreparably damaged.
  • Prevention of 100% of device theft, ransomware infection or data loss.
  • Decryption of files encrypted by ransomware without the decryption key.
  • Action without a prior written mandate when the intervention touches devices or data belonging to others.
  • Replacement of a judicial expertise, police investigation or specialised IT security intervention.
  • Total protection against every form of attack, theft or loss.

Process applied

1

Definition of context, important data to protect and objectives of the backup strategy.

2

Inventory of critical data (photos, documents, contacts, messages, work files, etc.).

3

Proposal of an adapted backup strategy (frequency, storage locations, encryption, automation).

4

Configuration of automatic backup on macOS, iOS and Linux (and on secure cloud services if desired).

5

Implementation and testing of a clear, functional restore strategy.

6

Identification of the main risks (data loss, ransomware, theft, human error).

7

Written documented synthesis with cited sources, follow-up notice and maintenance recommendations.
